New publication online (5)
Today I have uploaded a new publication again. This time the article ‘The First Cameraman in Iceland’, after a lecture I held at the SCS Conference, Washington, and the British Silent Cinema Weekend, Nottingham. The article appeared in Picture Perfect. Landscape, Place and Travel in British Cinema before 1930 (2007), edited by Laraine Porter and Briony Dixon, to whom I owe gratitude for this online version. The text compares travel accounts, as those by Henry Holland and William Morris and British and German travel literature from c.1900 dealing with Iceland, to the first film shots of Iceland, made by Dutch cameraman Anton Nöggerath junior, working for the British company Warwick. For the next British Silent Cinema weekend, now in Leicester, see http://britishsilents.wordpress.com/
