Today I uploaded my English-written publication ‘Of Artists and Tourists. ‘Locating Holland’ in Two Early German Films’, which appeared in the volume A Second Life. German cinema’s first decades (1996), edited by Thomas Elsaesser and Michael Wedel. It deals with the two films Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen (Dekage 1912) by Christoph Mülleneisen, shot in Volendam, and Auf einsamel Insel (Eiko 1913) by Joseph Delmont, shot in and around Marken. The couleur locale of the two films is placed within the context of the international pictorial discovery of these two old fishermen town -in particular Volendam – between the late 19th century and the early 20th century, by artists, tourists, and the film industry.
