Hubert Damisch

Next Thursday, May 28th, I’ll be visiting the lecture by Hubert Damisch, at the University of Amsterdam. Last Autumn, when I lectured on mirrors in paintings and films, we read a part of his seminal study The Origin of Perspective with our master students. In particular the part where Damisch defended Foucault’s text on Velazquez’ Las Meninas against ‘hardcore art historians’ was intriguing. The title of his lecture is unknown yet. Maybe he’ll talk about his recent Ciné Fil, a volume of articles mostly on cinema & painting? Let’s hope so.

  1. Dear Ivo, is Damisch still at EHESS in Paris?

    • Dear John,

No, he is retired now. He is born in 1928, so that makes him at least 80, if not 81.

      Best regards,
